September 18, 2021

If you are in the Mobile Telecom domain especially Testing, Research, deployment domains, you have to be familiar with How to make deep research in the 3GPP website for the keywords you need to search for.

First, you have to know the Specification Numbering you need to search in, you can find all of them at this link

Personally, I always make my research at the top red series to understand LTE and 5G topics.

How Can I Find all Versions for my Keyword?

Always, I am asked for this question and I found a very simple way to get all versions and releases that belong to the specific keyword, let’s take the below example:

I need to search for “E1 Interface” as I need to understand the E1 aspects and protocol stack, Here I will guide you with the very simple steps:

Step 1: Go to the ETSI Standards-Search website.

ETSI Standard Search

Step 2: Use the Search Box and write “E1 Interface”, you find all releases and the latest update published one. You will find below figure there are two numbers:

  • ETSI Number, ETSI TS 138 460 V16.3.0 (2021-04)
  • 3GPP Number, 3GPP TS 38.460 version 16.3.0 Release 16 => From this you can identify the Specification Number of 3GPP which is 38.460 in this case, and will know the Release which is 16, and Version 3.0
Example of E1 Interface Search

Also if you are only focusing on Release 15, you will another version for V15 or Release 15.

Step 3: Download the document and Enjoy Reading ^^

There’s another method from the 3GPP website itself as below

Step 1: Go to this link, Write the Specification number, select release, technology, TS

Step 2: Select the latest document from the right Release

Finally, you will find the document you need below:
