Generally speaking, I see many use the same word for different meanings, sometimes they need to refer to O-RAN and write OpenRAN and vice versa. So let’s understand the main difference between them as below:

Why Do We Need O-RAN?
- The strong push for Future RANs to be built on a foundation of virtualized network elements, white-box hardware, and standardized interfaces.
- Create an ecosystem of multi-vendor, interoperable, autonomous, RAN that will enable rapid deployment of new & differentiated services that MNOs expect to offer in 5G.
